I have just spent the last weekend at a uke festival in Colwyn Bay, North Wales (August 1st-3rd) where I was absolutely blown away by the sounds that came from these electric ukelele’s. Acts that appeared were Dead man’s Uke, CBUG,Chonkinfeckle, Mersey Belles,Ormskirk Ukelele Group, the N’ukes and the fantastic Zahra Lowzley.
The sounds that Zahra made come out of her uke and the speed that she played at was just amazing. On the one hand you had the Mersey Belles sounding like 40’s George Formby style and on the other Zahra sounding like flamenco guitar. In the middle was Chonkinfeckle with their humour and dialect songs of Wigan. BRILLIANT.
